Be Christ Like

Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV 

Be imitators of God, therefore as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  

One of my first “real” experiences of someone making themselves available to God was my mother. She would drive down to the shelter to help feed the homeless. One time, our family car broke down and she was unable to go, so she prayed to God, “Lord, I know there is someone near me who has to be hungry. If You will send them to me, I will put on a pot of stew and feed them.” A short time later, my younger brother came running into the house informing my mother that he thought a homeless man, lying under a tree in the park across from our house, was dead! My mother went over to the man and touched his leg. His eyes popped open and my mother asked him if he was hungry. Of course, he said yes, he was. So, she brought this man into our home, gave him a robe to change into so she could wash his clothes, and fed him while his clothes were in the washer — all because she made an agreement with God and made herself Christlike and available to Him.

Ask God today to send someone into your path to love with a Christlike love just as Christ loved us — through a kind act or a word of encouragement, or perhaps a warm bowl of stew.
