Oxymoron

The definition of an oxymoron is "a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction." In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter 5, Jesus begins with what it truly means to be “blessed,” in what we have come to call the Beatitudes. However, when we read these “blessings" in our current culture, they sound like oxymorons and leave us thinking, “Blessed are the what??” In this series, we take a look at what it truly means to be “blessed" from Jesus’ perspective.
