Sunday was a monumental day for Victory Church as we talked about the direction we are heading as a church. We concluded our series LIVE, MOVE, BE, but actually we have only just begun the movement of LIVE, MOVE, BE. If you missed the message, you can watch or listen to it by clicking below.

A portion of my sermon Sunday discussed the subject of us moving forward as a church with relentless determination, yet complete surrender. I want to discuss that a little deeper in my post this week. Let me ask you a question…is it possible to be determined and yet surrendered? Can you surrender to someone or something and yet still remain relentlessly determined? How do you press forward, yet surrender? In the natural it seems counterintuitive.  However, in scripture we see people who are relentlessly determined to live out their calling, yet completely surrendered to God in the process.

Look at David for example. Here is a "man’s man,” relentlessly determined to slay whatever giant comes across his path. With his mighty men by his side, he slays enemy after enemy and army after army. However, we also see a man completely surrendered to God with his entire being.

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
— Psalm 25:4-6

In the middle of his journey and plan, he's inviting God to invade his life and guide him and teach him. Relentless determination; complete surrender.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
— Proverbs 16:9

God wants us to have a plan; to seek Him and pray and come up with a direction that we feel He is leading us, and then relentlessly pursue that plan. However, our plan starts, proceeds, and ends with submission and surrender to God directing our steps. Proverbs 3:5-6 convinces me of this.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
— Proverbs 3:5-6

Both individually in our personal lives, and corporately as a church, let’s proceed with relentless determination and complete surrender. In all of our ways submit to Him and depend on Him to make our paths straight! I cannot wait to go on this amazing journey with you as we LIVE in His presence, MOVE beyond ourselves, and BE transformed.
