2017 – Make Room
Make Room Through Preparation

When the 5’oclock news says that a huge storm is coming, we don’t think twice about getting ready for it, yet time after time we forget to prepare for the spiritual storms. Having lived in Oklahoma for the past 10 years, I know what it means to be prepared for a storm! The thing about storms is that they will always come. The Bible says that when the storm comes, we need to have our house built on a solid foundation. As Christians, we need to be aware of the spiritual battles that are going on around us each and every day. We need to equip ourselves with the armor of God in order to withstand the attacks of the enemy.

Today’s Scripture

“24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” – Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)

Tip from Philip

The world can be a cold hard place, and we can get down on ourselves a lot if we are not prepared. There are those seasons where one thing after another just keeps going wrong. But, it is never too late to start preparing for a storm. Even if life seems like it is throwing everything at you, our God is bigger. We serve an Almighty Father who loves and cares for us, and who will stand with us through the storms. My advice to you is to continually look to God for wisdom and guidance. Whether you are in a storm right now, just getting out of one, or heading in to one soon, we can all use the help of the Father. Brick by brick we need to build a house on the foundation that is His Word and His Spirit.

Study Suggestions

Any time you feel that you are heading into a storm, stop and begin to prepare yourself. Something as simple as spending 15 minutes a day with God can completely change everything. I want to encourage you to try to spend at least 15 minutes every day reading the Bible and praying so that you can be prepared for the storms of life.
